Да се биде Ром и да се биде хендикепиран не значи едноставно соочување со две различни форми на дискриминација.
Овие идентитети се преклопуваат и обликуваат уникатно искуство на исклучување.
Лице со хендикеп од Роми може да се соочи со бариери поради хендикеп, антициганизам затоа што е Ром и дополнителна дискриминација токму затоа што овие идентитети постојат заедно. Овие искуства не можат да се разберат одделно.
Премногу често, политиките и услугите се однесуваат само на еден дел од идентитетот на лицето. Политиките за хендикеп може да го занемарат расизмот и антициганизмот. Политиките за вклучување на Ромите може да го занемарат хендикепот.
Резултатот е дека многу хендикепирани Роми остануваат невидливи.
Интерсекционалноста нè потсетува дека еднаквоста не може да се постигне со решенија што одговараат на сите. Правата, здравствената заштита, образованието и јавните услуги мора да ја препознаат целосната реалност на животот на луѓето.
Инклузијата не е интерсекционална сè додека сите не се вклучени.
Being Roma and being disabled does not simply mean facing two different forms of discrimination.
These identities intersect and shape a unique experience of exclusion.
A disabled Roma person may face barriers because of disability, antigypsyism because they are Roma, and additional discrimination precisely because these identities exist together. These experiences cannot be understood separately.
Too often, policies and services address only one part of a person’s identity. Disability policies may overlook racism and antigypsyism. Roma inclusion policies may overlook disability.
The result is that many disabled Roma people remain invisible.
Intersectionality reminds us that equality cannot be achieved with one size fits all solutions. Rights, healthcare, education and public services must recognise the full reality of people’s lives.
Inclusion is not intersectional until everyone is included.
